The Pope and the King are pretty much the same power.Except the pope has more spirtual power and the king has more political power. Together the pope and the king controlled most of the European society. During the Middle Ages the pope was ahead of the christian church in the Western Europe. the pope had great power. The people saw the pope as god's representative on Earth. Since people saw the pope as God's representative, it was his duty to choose what the church would teach. If the pope felt if someone was against the church, the pope can punish them in so many ways. In the addition of spirtual power, many of the popes have great political power, but not as much of the king, however once the Roman Empire collapsed, most of the people looked up to the pope as their king.

Most of the states were ruled by the king, some of the kings had little real power. In a few places some kings had began to take firm control of their contries. at a time Europes's most powerful kings from all ruled three contries. In England and France, the kings inherited their thrones from their fathers. At some times the nobles were against the kings, but the kings usually restablished order fairly quickly. The kings maintained this order through alliances as well as warfare.
